‘School of Eminence’ project started with a budget of 200 crores, schools will be built on the lines of Delhi

Mohali. School Education: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while launching his government’s ambitious project ‘Schools of Eminence’, said it was a ‘revolutionary’ step towards ensuring a bright future for students. A budget of Rs 200 crore has been earmarked for the ‘School of Eminence’ project. The project aims to revitalize education in government schools and ensure holistic development of students so that they become responsible citizens. Under the ‘Schools of Eminence’ project, 117 government schools in 23 districts will be upgraded, with special emphasis on classes 9 to 12.

Its five pillars are state-of-the-art infrastructure, academics, human resource management, sports and co-curricular activities and community involvement, a senior official said. Apart from career-related counselling, innovative teaching methods will be adopted and students will also be guided for professional examinations, the official said.

Schools will be prepared for future needs
Mann said that these schools are being started keeping in mind the aspirations of freedom fighters, which will prepare students for future needs and help make Punjab a model in the field of education. He said that the day is not far when these government schools will provide better education than private schools. “Such schools have already revolutionized the education sector in Delhi. Now it is the turn of Punjab where this model will be implemented successfully.

The teachers will go to Singapore for training
Stating that teachers are the builders of the nation, the Chief Minister said that they should play an important role in bringing qualitative change in the education sector. Talking about his government’s decision to send 36 teachers to Singapore for training, Mann said it would help them learn best practices from around the world. (with language input)
