NCERT released new guidelines, which will change school uniforms across the country

New Delhi (NCERT Guidelines, School Uniform), NCERT has released a new draft module for school staff across the country (NCERT Module). It highlights the problems faced by transgender students in schools. In this new module, many ways of facilitating transgender students are discussed.

Keeping transgender students in mind, NCERT has suggested regular workshops, outreach programs and gender-neutral uniforms in schools. Caste system and patriarchy have been neglected by adding many new subjects in it. The draft manual is titled ‘Integrating Transgender Concerns into Schooling Processes’.

Learn the meaning of gender neutral uniforms
A gender-neutral uniform is the same for every student (Gender Neutral Uniform). Gender-neutral uniforms do not limit students to any one gender. This uniform removes the distinction between boys, girls and transgender students. This conveys the message that every human being is equal. A gender neutral uniform was introduced for the first time in 2020 at Kozhikode in Kerala.

The design of toilets in schools will change
The new NCERT report has several recommendations for transgenders. On the issue of toilets, it said there should be special toilets for transgender students. NCERT’s draft manual reads – If a school has toilets for children with special needs (CWSN), transgender students can also use it.

For your information, we inform you that NCERT has prepared this new draft after the objection of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
