Children’s reading ability declines, number of students in govt schools rises – report

ASER 2022: In 2022, only 1 in 5 children in third grade can read second grade text. This situation is seen in government and private schools across the country. A major decline has been observed in the basic reading skills of children. Especially in children from 3rd to 5th grade. Due to Kovid, schools have been closed for two years and this situation is being witnessed.

Recently, the annual education report, ASER 2022, was released by Pratham Foundation, which mentions these things. The report determined the number of students in the school, their attendance, their ability to learn mathematics and English, and facilities in the schools. The survey was conducted on 6,99,597 children in the age group of 3 to 16 years.

The number of students in government schools increased
The report shows that the number of students in government schools has also increased. But the number of students going for private tuition has also increased. The number of students has increased in government schools in almost all the states. On the other hand, the percentage of children attending classes from class I to VIII has gone up to 30.5 per cent from 26.4 per cent in 2018.
