Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present her last full budget (Budget 2023) on February 1, some expectations of the farmers are also attached to this budget. Government should increase the cash assistance given to farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in the upcoming budget 2023-24. Industry experts expect the budget to provide tax breaks to agri-tech startups and reduce import duties.
Along with this, he said that there is a need to announce some incentives for farmers as well as agri-tech startups for faster adoption of technologies like AI, precision farming and drones in the Indian agriculture sector. The 13th installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana) will soon be transferred to the accounts of farmers.
Why should the amount be increased?
RG Aggarwal, chairman of agricultural chemical company Dhanuka Group, said that more amount should be given to farmers under the PM-Kisan programme. With this, farmers will be able to buy seeds, fertilizers and pesticides in sufficient quantity. Under the PM Kisan scheme, the central government pays a total of Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments. Agarwal also sought some incentives to promote research and development activities and extension services in the agriculture sector.

Edible oil industry body SEA demanded launching of a national mission to increase production of oilseeds and reduce import of edible oil. Ajay Jhunjhunwala, president, Solvent Extractors Association of India, said there is an urgent need to launch a ‘National Mission on Edible Oils’ with adequate financial support to boost oilseed production.

Syngenta India Chief Sustainability Officer K.C. Ravi said that if the amount is increased in the PM-Kisan scheme, then farmers will get more cash for agriculture. On the other hand, Deepak Bhardwaj, co-founder and director of IoTWorld Navigation, said that the government should set aside some money from the Rs 1 lakh crore fund for drone procurement.
Anish Jain, founder of Gram Unnati, said farmers need to adopt new crops and technologies, which have the potential to drastically increase production and income. Similarly, Maninder Singh, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of bio-fuel and bio-fertilizers company CEF Group, said that the government should consider giving subsidy to promote organic fertilizers among farmers.
